Why I Started Ignite Safety: A Commitment to Fire Safety Excellence
At Ignite Safety, our mission is simple: to help businesses stay safe and compliant with fire safety regulations. Fire risk assessments are not just a requirement—they are a critical part of protecting employees, customers, and property from fire hazards. Let me share a bit about why I started Ignite Safety and how we can support your business.
A New Chapter in the UK
Three years ago, after spending 10 years in New Zealand, my family and I decided to return to the UK. We were excited to start fresh, bringing with us a wealth of experiences and a new sense of purpose. It didn’t take long to realise that I wanted to combine my passion for safety with my expertise to make a positive impact. That’s when the idea for Ignite Safety was born.
A Solid Foundation in Firefighting and Health & Safety
My background in fire safety spans over 20 years, including 8 years as a full-time firefighter with West Yorkshire Fire Service (WYFS). During my time at WYFS, I gained invaluable hands-on experience in managing fire risks and responding to emergencies. This role shaped my deep commitment to safety and risk management.
In addition to firefighting, I’ve spent two decades working in health and safety, with NEBOSH qualifications in both health & safety and fire risk management. These qualifications have equipped me with the expertise to offer businesses sound advice on fire risk assessments and help them navigate fire safety regulations.
Commitment to Continuous Learning
In a constantly evolving field like fire safety, staying up-to-date is essential. To provide the best possible service, I’m currently completing the Advanced Fire Risk Assessment qualification at UCLAN, an IFE-registered course. This qualification will enhance my knowledge and ensure that Ignite Safety stays at the forefront of fire risk assessment best practices.
Why Fire Risk Assessments Are Crucial
Fire risk assessments are a legal requirement for any business with 5 or more employees, as outlined by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person in a business (typically the owner or manager) must ensure that a thorough fire risk assessment is conducted, identifying fire hazards and implementing measures to mitigate them.
This is where Ignite Safety comes in. We provide comprehensive fire risk assessment services tailored to the needs of businesses across the Northwest of England. Whether you need a commercial fire risk assessment for your retail business, a residential fire risk assessment for your property, or a fire safety assessment for a healthcare facility, we are here to guide you through the process.
Key Elements of a Fire Risk Assessment
A fire risk assessment involves evaluating potential fire hazards, such as faulty equipment, combustible materials, and inadequate fire prevention systems. It also includes ensuring that fire safety measures, such as fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and passive fire protection, are in place and well-maintained. In addition, staff fire safety training is essential to ensure that employees know how to respond in an emergency.
Ignite Safety’s final say…
We work with small and medium sized businesses in retail, healthcare, property and industrial sectors across the Northwest of England to assist with a full range of fire risk assessment services to help businesses comply with fire safety regulations.
